Model of the Month - July 2024

Model of the Month - July 2024

Summer stagnation…

The Summer is that time of the year that most of the people around the world is waiting for. The students are ready to finish the school year and enjoy the holidays, Parents have been preparing the next ideal location for the family vacation. Young adults around the world are traveling, getting to know new places, absorbing new experiences and in some cases, finding love in a festival…

In general, we could say that the Summer is one of the most amazing times of the year… right? (and here is the moment where our writer starts doubting this statement).

Well, if you are running a business, and of course, depending on the type of business and the location of the same, you’ll realize that, due to the amazing experiences everyone is having around the world, some of your usually fast transactions tend to get a bit… slower. This makes sense, there’s a lot of people on holidays and they are not focusing on buying, and by default, your distributors are not working that hard, because they know sales will be low.

In the case of our store, there was no problem with the sales, but the holidays of our distributors meant that we did not receive any new product in July, and this of course creates a problem for our “Model of the Month” Blog.

So how are we going to solve this? Easily, if you read last month’s post, you probably remember that we had 2 runners up for the “Model of the Month”, so I’m coming to one of those and giving it the honor, to be the July Model of the Month.

The (not-needed) history lesson

When talking about any category of motorsport racing, is difficult not to talk about Ferrari, their long pedigree of success speaks by itself, even when they have not been that successful in recent years.

For the recent years, we definitely will have to add the name Red Bull to the conversation. Since their first race in F1 in 2005, they have been part of the WRC, the DTM Championship and even the WEC, and now they even released their own Hypercar, designed by the master of the downforce Adrian Newey. I think it is safe to say that they are a force to be recon.

Can you imagine if we could make some kind of hybrid between these 2 amazing giants?

Well, that’s exactly what happened in the DTM in 2021, Red Bull joined the Saloon Championship with 2 of their Academy drivers, Alex Albon and Liam Lawson.

What were they driving?

Alex Albon lost his F1 seat in Red Bull at the end of the 2020 season, already too late in the year to get another seat in the paddock for 2021, so he was assigned to this championship to drive the AlphaTauri Ferrari, and Liam Lawson, only 19 years old at the time, was given the Red Bull.

The expectations for the first race of the year were placed on the experienced Albon, but it was Lawson who made the headlines by transforming from "Rookie" to a Title contender in the first race in Monza, where he drove that beast of a car to win the race.

The championship was not a Cinderella story though, Lawson finished in 2nd, behind the Mercedes-AMG driver Maximilian Götz, but the model of the month is the reminder of that glorious moment that made Lawson dream for more…

The (reviewed) chosen one…

Hobby64 is one of the highest quality lines in the Diecast World, Tarmac Works pulls all the stops in these models, and each release is near perfection.

You wanna know why do I say so?

Well... hold on tight champ, this is going to be a ride.

The paint job is immaculate, showing a cherry mate-shiny Red Bull on the side with the yellow sun over a two tone blue base. Though this is only on the driver side, in the other side there's no bull. The little Ferrari logo is on the sides, near the incredible well-made side mirrors. Once around the area, we also need to mention the open window on the Driver’s side.

In the front you’ll have acrylic inserts for the headlights and a super tiny tow hook on the right.

On the back you have also acrylic inserts for the taillights and detailed Exhaust pipes and back diffuser, without forgetting that ominous back wing.

But that’s not all, on the top it has its antenna, and in the back you can see the Silver Roll Cage protecting that Twin Turbo V8 Engine.

The Cherry on the cake are those wheels; 14 Spokes racing wheels in a dark smoked gray color that give you a glimpse of the systems of brake and calipers of the car. The front and back wheels are different, just like in the real model. And they are using rubber tires with the Michelin logo on them.

For display, you have the acrylic base in the Ferrari Red and White colors, with its protective acrylic case.

If you are wondering, this is a collaboration with IXO models, because they are the ones that have the Ferrari license.

In usual Tarmac Works fashion, you have the card of the model with the limited number on it.

Why come back to it now?

Well, since the moment I ordered this model for the store I was already excited, I mean, look at it!

However, as I mentioned in the June post, I was already expecting an incredible model from Tarmac Works, that fact plus the affordability of the model, made me decide in favor of a Hot Wheels Basic model that took my breath away when I saw it (I was really not expecting that).

But, given the circumstances of the lack of new models in the store this month, I think it was more than fair to come back to this one and give it the appreciation it deserves.

There’s no lie that this type of models have up the game for all the brands, and we as collectors cannot be more happy. The price point is always a question mark, and only a few lucky ones will be able to get their hands in more than one of these, but for us, rest of the world, if you have a favorite, make an effort, get it, once you see it in person, you’ll ask yourself, why didn’t I get it sooner?
