Model of the Month - September 2026

Jiyi Model Porsche 996 Sally Special Edition

Some movie cars become famous because of the movie.

Others become so recognizable that they become part of automotive culture themselves. Sally Carrera is one of those cars. 🩵

With the arrival of this piece, we have a particularly good reason to revisit her story and celebrate the 20th anniversary of Disney-Pixar's Cars movie.

Released in 2006, Cars introduced an entire generation to a world where automobiles weren't just vehicles — they were the characters.

Among all of them, Sally Carrera became one of the most recognizable. Her friendly personality, unmistakable blue color and Porsche-inspired design made her much more than a supporting character. She became one of the most memorable cars in the Cars universe.

For September's Model of the Month, we're celebrating that connection with the Jiyi Model Porsche 996 Sally Special Edition in 1:64.

Sally Carrera — The Porsche Behind the Character

Sally Carrera is the owner of the Cozy Cone Motel and one of the central characters in Cars. She is also Lightning McQueen's love interest and one of the first characters he meets after arriving in Radiator Springs.

But for car enthusiasts, there is another reason Sally immediately stands out.

Her character design is based on the Porsche 996-generation 911.

The 996 is instantly recognizable thanks to its distinctive proportions, flowing bodywork and famous "fried egg" headlights. Pixar transformed those recognizable Porsche features into a character while giving Sally her own personality and visual identity.

The result was a car that felt unmistakably Porsche while still belonging completely to the world of Cars.

And that balance is a big part of why Sally became so iconic.

20 Years of Cars

When Cars premiered in 2006, it did something unusual.

It turned automotive design into character design.

Instead of simply putting cars into the background of a story, Pixar created an entire world where the cars were the characters. Their shapes, colors, details and personalities all worked together to tell the audience who they were.

Lightning McQueen's aggressive red shape reflected his racing personality.

Mater's rusty, improvised appearance immediately told his story.

And Sally's elegant blue Porsche design communicated elegance and presence.

Twenty years later, that approach still resonates with collectors.

For many enthusiasts, Cars was one of their earliest introductions to automotive culture. Some discovered specific manufacturers through the movie. Others became interested in racing, design or collecting because of the characters they saw on screen.

Sally sits right at the intersection of all of those things.

She is a Disney-Pixar character, a Porsche-inspired design and a piece of automotive pop culture all at once.

Sally's cool sky-blue appearance immediately separates her from the warmer, more aggressive colors used for characters such as Lightning McQueen. It gives her a friendly and elegant presence while making the character instantly recognizable.

That distinctive combination of Porsche 996 proportions + blue paint + expressive character design is what makes Sally work so well.

Even without the Cars branding, the silhouette immediately tells you which character you're looking at.

🩵 The Jiyi Model Interpretation

Jiyi Model takes the original Porsche 996 and recreates it in that distinctive cool sky-blue shade associated with Sally's character.

The result is a beautifully detailed 1:64 Porsche 996 that focuses on the real car rather than turning it into an oversized cartoon interpretation.

The exterior color is the first thing that catches your eye, but the details are what make this model particularly interesting for collectors.

The model features acrylic inserts for the headlights and taillights, giving the lighting elements a much more realistic appearance. At the rear, the Carrera 4S badge adds another authentic 996 detail.

The side mirrors feature reflective material, while the interior is finished in a detailed gray tone that works particularly well with Sally's blue exterior.

Then there are the wheels.

The detailed Porsche rims allow you to see the brake and caliper systems behind them, adding another layer of realism that is easy to miss at first glance.

And Jiyi Model doesn't stop with the car itself.

The model is presented on a reflective white plastic base, finished with a mirror-like plate displaying the model's name and the individual number of the limited piece you received.

The entire presentation is completed with a clear acrylic display box, making it a model designed not only for the shelf, but also for display.

This is an exclusive release for Hobby Expo China 2026, making the model even more interesting for collectors looking for something outside the usual 1:64 Porsche releases.

A Porsche 996 With a Pixar Connection

What makes this release particularly interesting is that it works on two different levels.

For a Cars fan, the blue Porsche immediately brings Sally Carrera to mind.

For a Porsche collector, it is still a beautifully presented 996 with realistic proportions and detailed execution.

That makes it a model that can comfortably sit alongside both Porsche-focused collections and Disney-Pixar collections.

And because the release is limited and individually numbered, it has another quality that collectors appreciate: it feels like a specific piece of the Cars anniversary rather than simply another licensed character model.

Why It Earned Model of the Month

This isn't simply another Porsche 996.

It's a connection between:

Porsche history × Disney-Pixar × 20 years of Cars × 1:64 collecting

Sally Carrera represents one of the most successful examples of turning a real automotive design into a memorable fictional character.

Twenty years after her debut, that design is still instantly recognizable.

And Jiyi Model captures that connection in a particularly collector-friendly way — with a realistic 996 foundation, Sally's unmistakable blue color, detailed exterior and interior features, and a limited numbered presentation.

That makes it a particularly fitting choice.

Twenty years after Cars introduced Sally Carrera to the world, the character remains instantly recognizable.

She started life as a Pixar character inspired by a Porsche 996. Today, she can sit alongside the real Porsches in your 1:64 collection.
