The Nissan Pathfinder was introduced in the mid-1980s as Nissan's entry into the growing sport-utility market. The first-generation model, known as the WD21, was built on a rugged body-on-frame platform and combined off-road capability with a more comfortable passenger-oriented layout than traditional utility vehicles.
